My journey into Sword Fitness began more than 14 years ago when I discovered the art of moving with a sword. From the very first practice, I was captivated. It wasn’t about fighting. It was about the precision, balance, focus, and flow that every movement required.
Movement has always been part of who I am. Before discovering the sword, I loved skateboarding and was drawn to activities that challenged both body and mind. Learning sword forms felt like a natural extension of that curiosity.
As life evolved, so did my practice. During my pregnancies, I stepped away from sword training but continued exploring movement through Qigong, yoga, and women’s Nei Gong. Those years taught me that true strength isn’t only built through physical effort. It comes from balance, breath, awareness, and consistency. I later had the privilege of teaching women’s qigong, helping others reconnect with their bodies and their own inner strength.
When I returned to sword practice after moving to Nova Scotia, I realized I didn’t want to recreate a traditional martial arts class. I wanted to create something different.
Something welcoming. Something creative. Something that anyone could enjoy, regardless of experience..
Today, Sword Fitness is a movement practice that happens to use a sword. It blends flowing sword sequences with strength, mobility, coordination, balance, and mindful movement in a way that is both challenging and accessible.
My hope is to create a community where women can discover what I discovered years ago: that movement has the power to build confidence, improve well-being, and connect us with ourselves and with one another.
Because I believe that strength begins with movement.
